Donna Sue Mangrum, age 65, Chicago, IL, passed away on Friday December 5, 2025, at home.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Edith Mangrum, née Fischer and her father, Conard Mangrum.
She is survived by her sister, Nona Jean Phillips; her brother, Conard James Mangrum, and her two nephews, Sean Michael Heatherly and Scott Owen Heatherly.
Donna was a kind and loving person. She loved reading and listening to music, especially jazz and blues, and frequented Buddy Guy’s Legends Jazz Club in Chicago and the Chicago Blues Festival in the summer. Donna also attended various concerts over the years. Donna had an extensive collection of recording artists’ work, ranging from rock & roll, jazz, blues, contemporary and classical music. Her favorite band was Led Zepplin. She had a beautiful singing voice, studied music when she was young; played the acoustic guitar and was a member of several choirs. She was also an excellent swimmer and a member of the swim team in high school.
She adored her two nephews and enjoyed spending time with them. Donna also enjoyed cooking and baking and considered herself a true foodie. She loved to bake gourmet cakes for her co-workers. There was always a line for a piece of cake when she brought one to the office to celebrate someone’s birthday.
Donna loved animals, especially dogs! She would have brought home every rescue she met if she had the means to take care of them.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Hultgren Funeral Home in Carol Stream, with a Celebration of Life service to follow from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. A light lunch will be available during the visitation time.
A private graveside service for immediate family members will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago on April 24, 2026, to honor her. She will be buried next to her beloved mother, Virginia.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
