Obituary

Col. Donald Freeman Westra, Sr. USAF-Retired, 99, a resident of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017.

Donald was born on November 8, 1918 in Randolph, Wisconsin to the late John D. and Nellie (Vander Schaaf) Westra. He served his country faithfully by serving with the United States Air Force during World War II, retiring after 23 years at the rank of Colonel. He served as the Vice-President for Medical Affairs at Ohio State University and was Executive Director of the Christian Medical and Dental Association.

He was predeceased by a son, John Scott Westra, and three sisters; Helen Kaiser, Maesel Sterk, and Mae Westra. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Mae (Hiemenga) Westra of Bradenton, two sons; John (Rebecca) Westra of Wheaton, IL, Donald F. Westra, Jr. of Bradenton, one daughter, Ruth (Luke) Brinks of Batavia, IL, one sister, Jean Oldham of Madison, WI, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 21, at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave West Chicago, IL at 2:30 pm.
