Donald R. Shaner, age 88, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Central DuPage Hospital.
Born in 1926 in DeKalb, Illinois, Don lived the majority of his life in Wheaton, graduating from Wheaton Community High School. After serving in the US Navy in the Philippines at the end of World War II, he married Twylah Havens in 1948 and graduated from the University of Illinois with a master's degree in mechanical engineering. Through his company, Don consulted for state governments, and public colleges and universities across the US. After his retirement in 1993, he served on the Wheaton Warrenville School Board for four years.
Survivors include his brother, Victor Shaner of La Jolla, California; his daughter, Sandra (Wendell) Grogan of Houston, Texas; his son, Chris (Sue) Shaner of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; and four grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Twylah; and his brother, Herbert Shaner, Jr.
A memorial and remembrance gathering will be held at 10 AM, Saturday March 14 at the
First Presbyterian Church
, 715 N. Carlton, Wheaton, Illinois 60187. A private burial will be held at Wheaton Cemetery.
