Donald W. Lobdell, age 91, slipped into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, January 1, 2016 at DuPage Convalescent Center, Wheaton, IL. He was born on May 23, 1924 to Lawrence W and Alice L Lobdell in Sandwich, IL. On April 2, 1949 he married Evelyn F. Kupsche in Chicago.
He attended Sandwich High School and upon graduation went into the Navy, serving as an electrician on the USS Betelgeuse during WWII. Following his discharge, he studied electronics, eventually working for Motorola where he retired after 36 years of service. He had a strong faith in God and was very active in the local Church. He especially loved singing in the choir and playing trombone solos. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved his dogs, loved to travel and enjoyed taking photographs wherever he went.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Sharyn) of Winfield, IL; grandchildren, Steve (Vanessa) Lobdell of Aurora, IL, and Sarah Lobdell of Glendale Heights, IL; a brother, Neal E. (Starlyn) Lobdell of Plano, IL; and a sister, Karen A. Newberry of Mendota, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents, Lawrence and Alice Lobdell; a brother, Robert E. Lobdell; and sisters, Betty L. Sweat and Marjorie J Crescioli.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 9 a.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 10:30 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
