Obituary

Don W. Eisinger, age 83, a longtime resident of Wheaton, Illinois and most recently Carmel, Indiana, died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness.

He was born May 17, 1926 in Massillon, Ohio and grew up in Kokomo, Indiana where he graduated from Kokomo High School in 1944.

Following his service in World War II, Don returned to Kokomo and married Joan Jenkins, his sister's best friend.

Don received a B.A. and an M.B.A. from the Indiana University School of Business, and remained an ardent supporter of the school.

He worked for the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, and USG Corp. in Chicago, where he was Chief Economist and Director of Corporate Planning.

Don was a long-time member and past president of the Indiana Society of Chicago.

While living in Wheaton he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Central DuPage, volunteered at DONKA and Meals-on-Wheels and was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church.

Recognizing his service to the state of Indiana, Don was honored in 1992 by Governor Evan Bayh as a "Sagamore of the Wabash" the highest distinction in the state.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Joan.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Eve, nee Hinders; two children, David (Carol) and Mary Sue; and three grandchildren, Rebecca and Robert Eisinger and Karen Juengling. Don is also survived by sisters, Frances Smeltzer, and Joyce (Lewis) Matuszewich; and brother-in-law, Earl Jenkins.

Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 715 N. Carlton Ave., Wheaton, IL, 60187. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
