Obituary

Dolores "Dee" Rapinchuk, nee Boehm, age 69, a resident of West Chicago for 35 years, died Thursday, December 1 at the Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. She was born on April 29, 1942 in Chicago to Walter and Dorothy Boehm.

Dee graduated from Luther High School South and the Evangelical School of Nursing in Chicago. She worked as a nurse at Christ Community Hospital in Oak Lawn where she set up the IV Therapy Department. On July 22, 1967 she married George Rapinchuk. They moved to West Chicago in 1976 where they raised their family. She has been an active member of the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church where she was an avid supporter of children. She was an excellent homemaker and loved to bake.

Dee lived with Lupus for 40 years which caused over 40 surgeries. In 1985 she founded the first Lupus Support Group in Illinois at Central Du Page Hospital, which she continued for over 20 years. She was an encouragement to many Lupus patients and caregivers across the country. She authored numerous articles and was a national spokesperson on Lupus support. Because of her leadership, she was given an Outstanding Service Award.

She is survived by her husband, George, three children, George W. (Becky) Rapinchuk of Geneva, Laura (Matt) Pheneger of Hiram, OH, and Michelle (Brian) Bowen of Geneva, eight grandchildren, Piper, Jameson, Marcus, Claire, Alyssa, Alana, Makena and Tess, her mother, Dorothy Boehm of Palos Heights, and two brothers, James E. Boehm of Homer Glen and Walter Boehm of Alpharetta, GA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Boehm and grandson, Sterling Bowen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 6 from 2 until 8 p.m. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton, IL 60187, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 7 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago.
