Dolores Ostrowski, age 96, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, passed away, peacefully with her family present on Thursday, March 1, 2018. She was born March 15, 1921 in Chicago to Theodore and Evelyn Ostrowski.
She enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and reached the rank of Lieutenant. She trained pilots in instrument flying in Pensacola, Florida and was an expert markswoman.
After the war she graduated from Miami University in Miami, Florida and opened a photography studio. Upon returning to Chicago, she went to work at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital. Her next career was in education, first teaching in a parochial school in Chicago. After moving to Wheaton in 1965, she resumed her teaching career at Glen Hill School in Glendale Heights. She retired in 1983 to care for her mother, Evelyn.
She loved bike riding, Thursday night band concerts, nature walks, her cats, traveling abroad (especially Spain and Italy) and playing Dominos at the Wheaton Senior Center.
A devout Catholic, she was active at St. Mark parish in Wheaton where she was CCW "Woman of the Year." She was generous and supported numerous charities and causes.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Theodore (Lynn) Ostrowski, Daniel Ostrowski, Christina Ostrowski, Andrew (Tana) Ostrowski, and Terry (Paul) Guerin and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Theodore Ostrowski Sr., and two step-sisters, LouAnn (Dow) Gothard and Phyliss (Bob) Heffelfinger.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A Mass will be held on Monday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at
St. Mark Catholic Church
, 300 Cole St. (east of Main St.) Wheaton. Prayers begin at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
