IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Diane Slinn
Greenberg
April 30, 1951 – February 5, 2020
Diane Slinn Greenberg, born April 30, 1951 in Pittsboro, NC to Father Duncan James Slinn and Mother Florence O'Connor Slinn, passed from this life at about 1:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Diane has three living siblings, Martha Koontz (husband George), James, and Michael (wife Heather), and one, Marvin, deceased. She has three grandchildren, Riley (from JaiMee), Ashton, stepchild from Derek), and Emily, deceased from Derek). Her life until college was mostly spent in South Florida, where she met and eventually married Jeffrey Greenberg on December 18, 1970. They went to college together, first at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, then transferred to Florida State University in Tallahassee to receive their undergraduate degrees; Diane's was for a pre-professional Medical Tech program. The application of Medical Science was a great passion and skill for Diane as she served on research teams at the University of Kentucky and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Among her accomplishments is an important article as first author published for the National Academy of Science.
After leaving North Carolina at the completion of Jeff's PhD work, the couple moved to the Madison, WI area where Jeff became a professional state geologist, Diane served in various medical capacities (EMT, Family Practice Assistant, Crisis Pregnancy Center Director) and began mothering their first child, Derek (adopted). The following year, (1978-79) the Greenbergs also adopted Derek's full biological brother Craig. Two more children were added to the family via adoption, daughters Angela (now married to Ross Jenkins), and JaiMee from Korea. The surprise biological child, Kyle (married to Kathy) was born in 1988 in Illinois where Jeff by then was on the faculty of Wheaton College. This most diverse and challenging collection of young ones were Diane's prime mission in life.
Diane gave her all to loving and caring for others. Her deep love of Jesus was very apparent. The concept of being tenderhearted could be modeled after her personal approach to all people. She expressed a rich spiritual and intellectual life though church and other organizational associations. She could deliver profound insights about this life and their eternal significance. Humor as well as poignant content were shared with those blessed enough to receive it. And…..so much more.
