Dennis Paul Nielsen Helledy, age 69, a resident of Oak Park, IL, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst, IL. He was born July 12, 1943 in Oak Park, IL.

Dennis is a retired Chicago Park District employee. He loved to travel whether it be by foot, bike, car or train. He also loved animals. He had friends in every town. He enjoyed church activities, bowling, craft classes, family parties, and going to the family cottage. He played the organ and the piano. He loved his Cokes, donuts and Snicker bars.

He is survived by his sister, Joyce (Bruce) Callahan of Oak Park, IL; his brother, David (Edie) Helledy of Magalita, CA; nine nieces and nephews, Bruce (Catherine) Callahan, Jeaneen (Tim) Pociask, Julee (Bryan) Rauschhuber, Daniel Helledy, Katie (Ron) Fielmann, Renee (Mike) Allen, Chris (Caroline) Callahan, Pat (Rebecca) Callahan and Melissa (Chris) Watters; 26 great-nieces and great-nephews, Richard, Kirk, Jaclyn, Krystal, Meghan, Alex, Sean, Kasey, Colleen, Kyle, Katie, John, Pat, Randy, Erin, Cassidy, Jordan, Ryan, Shannon, Connor, Shealy, Ava, Jackson, Riley, Macy, and Gweneth; his great-great-niece, Cassidy; and his great-great-nephew, Liam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Howard and Grace Helledy; and his brother, Martin Howard Helledy Jr.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, corner of Jefferson and Ellis, in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
