Dennis F. Karwoski, age 71, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, May 11, 2015. He was born October 29, 1943 in Aurora to Marion and Dora Karwoski.
As the son of an Air Force Sr. Master Sgt., Denny lived from Wheaton to New York to Newfoundland, Canada. After attending Northern Illinois University he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He met Jan Burchett on a blind date on the fourth of July, 1971. They were married on September 23, 1972. He worked in the kitchen cabinet industry as a salesman until retirement.
He was an active member of Gary United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Caleb Men's Group. His desire to help others led him to be involved in Habitat for Humanity and the American Cancer Society. Even after he was treated for cancer, he continued to go on mission trips with the Caleb Group.
Denny was an avid sailor and his true passion was to be out on the water with his family and friends on his boat "Friendship III." Every year he had child-like anticipation for fishing trips with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Karwoski, one daughter, Jessica (Aric) Blom of Lake Bluff, IL, and two granddaughters, Allyn Faye and Marilyn. He is also survived by his parents, Marion and Dora Karwoski of Boone, Iowa and three siblings, Linda Green, George (Sandi) Karwoski and Jeannette (Phil) Rehlander and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 12:00 p.m. at Gary United Methodist Church, Main St. and Seminary St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 until the time of the service.
