Dean Robert Showalter, age 69, of Geneva, Illinois, died July 9, 2020. He was born August 29, 1950 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Charles and Virginia (Mosele) Showalter.
Growing up in Wheaton, Dean loved sports. He was named the best pitcher of the Conference Champions Upstate baseball team for Wheaton Central High School in 1968 and was coached by Lyle Morrow. Dean also excelled as a gymnast in high school and at the University of Iowa where he was a three-time letter winner in 1970, 1971, and 1972. In 1972, he was the Big Ten All Around champion and a nominee for the "Heisman Trophy" of gymnastics, the Nissen-Emery Award. Dean finished his college career at Northern Illinois University where he majored in marketing. After college he worked for Marison Industries of South Elgin and the commercial real-estate firm of Cushman & Wakefield. In 1974, he met the love of his life, Kathleen Rae Huske of Elgin, and the two were married on September 25, 1976. In 1991, Dean left the corporate world and joined Kathy in running their interior painting and cabinet refinishing business, KS of Geneva. Dean was a master of carpentry, faux-finishing, and cabinetry. Together, Dean and Kathy owned their very successful business in the Fox Valley area until retiring in 2019.
Dean is survived by his wife Kathy; sons Michael (Bree), Christopher (Angela), and Robert (Christine); his many grandchildren; and brothers Charles, John (Peg), and Tom (Jana). He is preceded in death by his parents.
