Dawne Fox, age 36, a resident of Carol Stream, died Thursday, September 28, peacefully at home after five courageous and inspiring years of living with cancer. She was born in Elmhurst, Illinois on June 21, 1970.
Dawne was a 1988 graduate of Wheaton North High School. She earned a degree in psychology in 1992 from Illinois State University. After college she worked for Allendale School in Highland Park, working with troubled teens as a counselor in the school and group home. In 1993 she married her high school sweetheart, Randy Fox. After having two sons, Dawne dedicated the last seven years to nurturing and supporting her family. In spite of her illness, Dawne continued to enjoy life, actively living, traveling and appreciating every day with friends and family. She volunteered in her son's schools as well as at Gary United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Randy, two sons, Trevor and Brendon, her mother, Carol Wyns of Wheaton, three siblings, Deanna (Craig) Wiist of Bloomington, IL, Sandi DeWitt of Wheaton, and Mike (Courtney) DeWitt of Plano, IL, 6 nieces and 2 nephews, and her maternal grandmother, Catherine Wyns of Lombard, IL.
She was preceded in death by her father, George "Mike" DeWitt.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, from 2 until 9 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, Main and Seminary St. in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield. An open house celebrating Dawne's life will be held at the Fox home on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
