Obituary

Dawn Marie Monnett Diedrich, 73, of Glen Ellyn, Ill. and formerly of DeKalb, Ill., died at home on Saturday, December 13 after an extended battle with ovarian cancer. Mrs. Diedrich was born October 29, 1935 in Chicago, Ill., to John T. and Alicia Frances Monnett. Mrs. Diedrich was a celebrated artist whose medium included painting, printmaking and watercolor. She was a dedicated educator who taught art for 23 years at Beyer Elementary School in Rockford, Ill. and Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Ill. Mrs. Diedrich received both her Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Fine Arts degrees from Northern Illinois University. She is survived by her husband, Edward Francis Diedrich, 78, DeKalb, Ill.; six daughters: Jean Monnett Diedrich, Hinsdale, Ill.; Rebecca Anne Diedrich Smith, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Jennifer Dawn Diedrich, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Trina Marie Diedrich, Springfield, Ill.; Heidi Frances Diedrich, Chicago, Ill.; and Kathryn Mara Schafermeyer, Yorkville, Ill.; and five grandsons and two granddaughters. She is also survived by her father John T. Monnett and brother John T. Monnett II, both of Oshkosh, Wis. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alicia Frances Monnett, and infant grandson Ryan Mark Smith. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, December 20, at 2 p.m. in the Joseph Medill Room at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton, Ill.
