David Joseph "D.J." Schramer

David Joseph “D.J.” Schramer, age 90, a resident of Warrenville, IL, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026. He was born on May 24, 1935 in Wheaton to John T. Schramer & Elizabeth Dieter.

During his childhood, D.J. attended St. Michael School in Wheaton where he served as an altar boy. He also attended Wheaton Community High School. On January 21, 1956, he married Peggy Joyce Ballard and together raised their four children: Joyce, Greg John & Jeff. Fulfilling a childhood dream, D.J. pursued a career as a landscaper, excavator, and welder. He joined the Wheaton Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and faithfully served the department for many years. He became president of the department during his last year of service. His commitment to the Wheaton community extended further as he faithfully served as the sexton at Wheaton Cemetery & St. Michael Cemetery for many years, ensuring the grounds were properly cared for. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed bowling and fishing as well as card playing. He had a tender heart for animals, especially dogs.

He is survived by his children: Joyce Tamm-Mader of Warrenville, IL, D. Gregory Schramer (Donna) of Wheaton, IL, H. John Schramer (Susan) of Bloomingdale, IL, and Jeffrey Schramer (Dawn) of Winfield, IL; his grandchildren: James Tamm (Krystal), Whitney Tamm, Justin Tamm, Ariana Schramer Sjuts (Alex), Tristan Schramer, Austin Schramer, Katura Babcock (Will), & Jordyn Schramer: and his great-grandchildren: Corbin Tamm, Kira Tamm, Davi Ptak, Perry Sjuts & Lana Rose Sjuts; and his sister Barbara (the late Joseph) Corbett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his sisters Lorraine (Sam) DeFazio, Mary (the late Robert) Flynn and his brother Richard Schramer.

A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, IL 60187, on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with a brief prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at Wheaton Cemetery.
