David Keith Newcomer, age 77, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He was born July 28, 1947, in Rockford, IL to Maurice and Ruth Newcomer.

David retired as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, after 23 years of service, and he was a former commander of VFW Post 6791 in West Chicago. He served two years during the Vietnam War as part of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. David had a career in machine repair with TRW and enjoyed working in technology during the introduction of computers to homes and the service sector. As a young adult he served as a U.S. mail carrier, and after his career with TRW, he worked at the U.S. Post Office in Carol Stream as a mail processing equipment mechanic until his retirement in 2017.

David was an avid beekeeper, gardener, Boy Scouts leader, fisherman, and temple worker at the Chicago Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Glenview. He is a member of the Wheaton Ward located in Naperville, and he enjoyed serving at the Bishop's Storehouse.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Janette; his five sons: Keith (Charlotte), Cliff, Mark (Arianne), Ken (Sofia), and John Rick (April) Newcomer; his 10 grandchildren Jennifer, Ryan, Kira, Brecken, Crew, Trace, Brielle, Callista, Kai, and Kae; and his brothers Richard, Larry, Harry, Steven, and Jerry.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn; his parents; and his brother Herschel.

A visitation will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 270 Knollwood Drive, Bloomingdale, IL 60108, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris, Illinois.
