Obituary

David Lee Marcy, 44, "went to his new Group Home in heaven" August 25, 2015 after a battle with stomach cancer.  He was born at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL, November 9, 1970, to missionary parents Paul and Rebekah Marcy.  He lived in Honduras and was later diagnosed with a rare syndrome called Rubinstein Taybi.  His parents returned to the states settling in Wheaton, IL for medical and educational help for David. He attended local special education classes, lived in several Group Homes and attended the Elmhurst Community Learning Center Day Program. David was a member of Christ Community Church, Wheaton.  For over 30 years he enjoyed going to WALCAMP, a Lutheran ministry near Kingston, IL, and also STARS, the Disability ministry at College Church, Wheaton.  David enjoyed watching the Hour of Power church services on TV plus musicals, children's programs like Barney, Donut Man, and Kids' Songs. He liked trains, magazines and puzzles, memorizing and quickly doing100 piece ones.   He also worked at We Grow Dreams Garden Center, West Chicago and participated in the therapeutic horseback riding program at FTEA, Winfield, IL.  He could often be seen with his dad caring for him or riding on the tandem bike.  His special diet required his mother's extra work in the kitchen. At home David was great at setting the table, loading the dishwasher, plus doing laundry.

David was nonverbal using some sign language and communication books, and had sight in only his left eye. He challenged his caregivers with some autism and his strong will, but all came to realize everyone is "disabled" just in other areas and need we God and community.  While living at Shepherds Ministries in Union Grove, WI, David was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer in 1998, so his parents brought him home for treatment. Two friends who helped in his care were Steve Dome and Andy Apel.  He bravely overcame that and much later had 3 other operations at Glen Oaks Adventist Hospital.  Each time he gained strength at the West Suburban Care Center, Bloomingdale.  This spring, when he was living at a Group Home with Ray Graham Association for the Disabled he was diagnosed with the stomach cancer.  The staff at the RGA Addison campus and the Tender Love and Care Hospice workers cared for him these past several weeks.

The promises of the Christian faith tell us "absent from the body is present with the Lord." We are to get a new body with no pain; he can see out of both eyes, he has all his teeth restored, he can talk and sing his favorite song, the Hallelujah Chorus!

David is survived by his parents, Paul and Rebekah Marcy, Wheaton, IL, and an older brother, Dr.Timothy (Cathy) Marcy, Piermont, NH.  Also many aunts and uncles, including Rachel Bollman, Wheaton.  A special friend, Jean Ramirez, who was like a big sister, used her Special Educational skills and also took him swimming and on tandem bike rides.

Arrangements are by the Hultgren Funeral Home, Wheaton, IL.  David's cremation urn will be placed at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery Elwood, Il.  A visitation from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. and memorial service at 5:00 p.m. will be held at Christ Community Church, 602 E. Geneva Rd., Wheaton, IL on Monday, September 21, 2015. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the various organizations that helped him.
