November 6, 1936 – March 22, 2021
David C. Hamm, age 84, a resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 22, 2021, peacefully at his home. He was born November 6, 1936 in Aurora, Illinois to Brutus Charles and Vivian May Hamm.
David was a faithful Christian man; his faith in Jesus was his strength and guide throughout his life. He and Mary enjoyed researching and traveling to Norway and the Appalachian region to gather family genealogy. He loved bluegrass music and was an accomplished banjo and guitar player. He also was an avid photography enthusiast and enjoyed taking photos on their travels and of his grandchildren and great grandchildren; the little ones always brought a big smile to his face. He worked for 52 years in law enforcement with the Wheaton PD, DuPage Co, Illinois Bureau of Investigation, and Illinois State Police. He was a skilled and respected investigator known for his incredible memory. He liked people; a generous man, sensitive to the needs of others. Every morning he thanked the Lord for the gift of another new day.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary, his brother, Chuck (CeCe) Hamm, his sons, James Hamm, and Clay (Sharon) Hamm, grandchildren: Clayton (Whitney) Hamm, Dylan (Bisera) Hamm, Elizabeth (Max) Sucilla, Nicolle (Rob) Brust, and greatgrandchildren: Korrine, Calvin, Sean, James, Lincoln, Dominic, Adeline, Daniel, and a baby on the way.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 1, at 10:00 a.m. at College Church in Wheaton, Seminary and Washington St., Wheaton. A graveside service will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
