Green
May 26, 1942 – April 4, 2021
David A. Green, age 78, passed away on April 4, 2021. He was born on May 26, 1942 in Albert Lea, MN, to parents Robert and Lyla Green. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1960. Later that same year, he entered the Air Force. He began his training at Lackland Air Force Training Center in San Antonio, TX.
In 1961, he served a four year tour in Germany, 3 years at Ramstein AB, as a Radio Officer, Airman 2nd Class. In 1964 he was assigned to the USAF Special Activities Squadron in Zimming, France. On returning to the U.S. he served in the USAF Radar Squadron in California, Alaska, Thailand and various other places in the US before retiring in 1980. When his tour was over, he re-enlisted and served his country until August 1980. During that time, he was a Radio Relay Equipment Tech and worked on computer maintenance.
He was awarded the following for his service to our great nation: Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Gallentry Cross with Palm Device, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
After his discharge, David ended up in Glendale Heights, IL, and secured a job with a telephone company based in Chicago. He joined the Village Green Baptist Church and the members became his second family. His greatest joy was joining in the church activities. He volunteered his extra time to helping with the food pantry. He had a special sense of humor and will be missed by all that knew him.
David is survived by his sister, Georgia Johnson (husband David); niece, Heather Janusch; great niece Rachael Ellsworth, and several aunts and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Illinois 60187. Entombment Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois.
