Obituary

David Geurkink, age 80, a resident of Glendale Heights, IL, died December 8, 2025. He was born October 17, 1945.

David met his wife, Mary, in his late thirties and they discovered that they loved riding together on his motorcycles. Over the 43 wonderful years that they were married, the two took many trips, enjoying life and adventure, they visited several national parks, scenic areas, historic locations and highways all over the continental United States and parts of Canada. The couples' most recent trip was a cruise of the British Isles and Ireland—spending nearly two weeks at sea, taking in the culture, sights, and each other's company.

David lived a life full of curiosity, craftsmanship, and adventure. An avid hobbyist, he spent countless hours building model airplanes and exploring the open road on his motorcycle. His love of travel took him across the country and around the world, often by cruise ship, where he enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people.

Over the years, David worked in a variety of fields that reflected his hands-on skill and his dedication to helping others. He operated a home remodeling business, worked in real estate, and later served his community as a school bus driver—roles in which he formed lasting friendships and touched many lives. David will be remembered for his kindness, his gentle spirit, and his constant willingness to lend a hand—whether helping a friend, supporting family, or stepping in wherever he was needed.

He is survived by his sister, Marilynn (Lynwood) Larson; nephew, Eric (Marly) Geurkink of North Aurora; his sons, Christopher Rasmussen and Timothy Rasmussen; step-son, Bill (Julie) Walleck, step-daughter, Christine (Christopher) Hilmer; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

David was proceeded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Catherine Geurkink (née Bills), and his brothers, Vernon (Eleanor) Geurkink and Wendell Geurkink.
