In Loving Memory of David Eben
David Eben, a beloved resident of Chicago, IL, passed away on June 20, 2023, at the Ascension Alexian Brothers - Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, at the age of 60. He was born on March 22, 1963, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
David spent his formative years in Wheaton, attending Longfellow Grade School, Franklin Middle School, and graduated from Wheaton North in 1981. He continued his education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, graduating in 1989. He then began his professional career at Gary Wheaton Bank.
David was a truly creative soul with a talent for designing kitchens and framing art. His expertise in framing led him to work at The Frame Shop in Wicker Park, where he had the pleasure of serving many art collectors and sports personalities. His passion for art and design shone through his interactions with customers, where he enjoyed engaging in conversations about their artistic preferences and musical interests.
Ten years ago, David made the courageous decision to embark on a journey to sobriety. This transformative experience revealed his true passion for his work at The Frame Shop. He considered himself fortunate to be able to ride his bike to work, reveling in the freedom it provided. Cycling along the lakefront became one of his daily rituals, covering many miles as he embraced the beauty of nature.
David had an eclectic taste in music and found solace in attending concerts across various genres. His love for simplicity was juxtaposed with his distinctive fashion sense, allowing him to express his individuality. In the presence of dogs, he found a sense of peace and tranquility.
Above all, David cherished his family. He possessed an unwavering dedication to their well-being and would do anything to support them. Finding serenity in his life allowed him to reconnect with his loved ones, particularly his three nieces. David is remembered by his nieces for saying "take it easy" during their wild childhood. While it once began as a silly phrase that always ended in laughter from his nieces, it transformed into something beautiful. David's journey through sobriety and eventual battle against cancer led to the resounding essence of David's being. Positivity, energy and lust for adventure became the "take it easy" way.
He is survived by two sisters, Suzanne (Thomas) Taddeucci of West Chicago, and Carole (Al Lepinski) Eben, three nieces, Leigh (Sean) Briody, Alyson Taddeucci and Megan (Juan Jacquez) Taddeucci, great-nephew, Owen Briody and great-niece, Gracelyn Briody. David was preceded in death by his parents, Craig and Betsey Eben.
Services will be held privately to honor and remember David Eben's remarkable life. As a tribute to his enduring spirit, the acoustic version of
"Just Breathe" by Eddie Vedder
captures the essence of his journey and the beauty he found in each breath.
David will forever be remembered for his creativity, resilience, and love for his family. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
