Obituary

David Henry Dorn, 88, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

David was born on January 17 to Molly and John Dorn in Maywood, Illinois. After David graduated from Proviso High School in 1953, he went to work for Commonwealth Edison. His started his long career at Commonwealth Edison reading meters, and went on to become a lineman and foreman before he retired.

In 1962, David met Nancy (Senkus) Dorn in Chicago on a blind date. It was love at first sight. They got married a year later, and made their home in Wheaton, Illinois. David and Nancy went on to have two children, Timothy Dorn and Susan (Gillerlain) Dorn.
In 1992, David retired and spent his time traveling with Nancy, spending time with his family and four grandchildren, volunteering with his church, gardening and watching the White Sox.

David is survived by his wife Nancy, son Timothy (Lori), daughter Susan (Timothy Gillerlain), his grandchildren Alison Dorn, Brian Dorn, Jack Gillerlain and Sarah Gillerlain. He is also survived by his brother Robert (the late Jean) Dorn and sister-in-law Terry Albrecht and brother-in-law Roland Albrecht.

Visitation and services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church (410 N. Cross St., Wheaton, Illinois) on Friday, March 15. The visitation will start at 9 am and the service will start at 10:30 am. A short graveside ceremony will be held after the church service at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
