David L. Brewer, age 76, a resident of Wheaton, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He is survived by his wife, Heidi Brewer; daughters, Katri (Daniel) Delac and Krista (Phillip) Reid; and his siblings; John, Robert and Anita.

David was born August 19, 1942 in Elgin, Illinois to Russell and Esther Brewer. He grew up in Barrington, IL and excelled in sports and academics while at Barrington High School (1960). He later attended college at North Central College in Naperville, IL, graduating in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. While at NCC, he met his wife, Heidi, and they were married in 1968. He continued his education at the American Institute of Banking, earning degrees in commercial lending and also graduated from the American Bankers Association National Lending School at the University of Oklahoma (1965-70). Brewer first pursued a career in banking, starting at the Bank of Naperville in 1965 as an officer trainee, becoming President at First Security Bank of Glendale Heights in 1975, and later President of the Bank of North Aurora (Old Second Bank) in 1984. After his initial career in banking, Brewer transitioned his business administration degree into Church administration. He became the Business administrator at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton, a job that connected his work to his Faith and passion of helping, and he remained in that position until this past year, retiring in May 2018. During his career at Gary, he managed the many formal aspects of the church, as well as its day to day activities. As one of the church members stated, "Dave's job description, created by Dave, was everything in the church except actually preaching."

Even though Brewer was accomplished in his field of business, most importantly, he was a devoted family man and his Faith in God was the driving force of who he was as a person. He loved spending time with his two daughters and wife Heidi, travelling around the country on vacations, visiting with extended family on the West coast to East coast, and spending time with his brothers and relatives in Barrington. He was a quiet encourager to his family and friends and was always the one to find an answer to a problem. His ultimate joy in life was giving of himself to others.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton.
