David M. Blomberg, age 93, went home to be with His Lord on Sunday, May 27th. He died at home at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL. He was the loving husband for 66 years of Sarah (Sadie) and dearly loved his daughter, Janet. Dave and Sadie grew up together in the South Shore Baptist Church youth group, dated toward the end of college and were married on June 22, 1951. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, David and Cora, and by his sister, Sara.
Dave was born on the south side of Chicago in March 1925. During his freshman year at the University of Chicago, he was drafted into the army. After a short time in a specialized military training program in Storrs, CT, Dave completed basic training and served with the army's 78th infantry division. He saw combat in the Hurtgen Forest, the Bridge at Remagen and in the Battle of the Bulge. When the war ended, Dave returned to the States and to his studies at the University of Chicago where he earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees.
After graduation, Dave went to work for Pullman Standard where he worked for the next 20 years. His responsibilities included building the Carey Technical Center in Hammond, IN. In the early 1970s, Dave joined a new, young company headquartered in Oak Brook, IL called Waste Management. During his next fifteen years with the company, he held many different positions which included overseeing a major project in Saudi Arabia.
Throughout his life, Dave served in leadership roles in the churches he attended, at Sunny Ridge Family Center (Wheaton, IL), Bethel University (St. Paul, MN), Bethany Beach (Sawyer, MI) and several other Christian organizations.
