Blocher

Nelson "David" Blocher, age 69, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Monday, January 14, 2019, in Chicago, Illinois. He was born June 10, 1949 in St. Charles, Illinois.
David was a lifelong resident of the Wheaton area. He was a graduate of Wheaton Central High School and later Wheaton College earning a B.S. in economics and business administration. He later attended Northern Illinois University to obtain a masters science instructional technology as well as a school librarian certification. Later on, his drive to better himself and to provide for his family saw David attending night classes at John Marshall Law School where he graduated cum laude.
David is a Vietnam war veteran. He served during the years of 1970-1972 acting as the officer in charge of photographic detachments at Da Nang and Phu Bai. He also was the personal photographer for the Sammy Davis Jr. Vietnam tour in 1972. David met his future wife, Trinh, during the war at Long Binh where she worked as David's secretary.
David's work life is very diverse. He spent early years selling high end cameras such as Hasseblads and Linhofs, as well as writing tech articles for Shutterbug Magazine. After that he spent three years serving as audio-visual director for Bolingbrook High School as well as being their baseball coach. After that, he worked as Director of Technical Services for specialty chemical company, United Laboratories, Inc. Finally, David opened up his own "boutique" law firm specializing in probate and guardianships where he worked diligently until his death.
David's other interests included a love for baseball, participating in fantasy leagues and winning many. His was also an avid reader, he amassed an impressive personal library. He also enjoyed photography immensely, and did so at a professional level. His later years saw him starting to wind down and enjoy watching movies and various programs while eating his favorite comfort foods.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing him appreciated is intelligence, wit, keen sense of humor, and his generosity. David regularly put the needs of others ahead of his own, he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Trinh; his son, Stefan Blocher of Wheaton; and many siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katharine.
Services and interment are private.
In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, the family wishes donations be made in David's name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
