Obituary

Daniel Shilling, age 89, a resident of Wheaton since 1947, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015. He was born in Port Matilda, Pennsylvania on October 5, 1925 to John and Sarah Shilling.

Daniel grew up in Port Matilda where he graduated high school. During WWII he served under General Patton as a tank driver across Germany. After the war he attended Moody Bible Institute and Wheaton College. On June 21, 1947 he married Frances Snoke. They raised their family in Wheaton and attended the First Baptist Church of Wheaton their entire married life.

From 1961 until 1985, he worked as the Supervisor of Masonry for V. S. Walgren. His crew of over 50 men, who called him "Danny," loved and respected him and followed him from project to project. He was instrumental in building numerous Chicago landmarks including the Sears Tower and worked with the artist Marc Chagall on the artwork at the First National Bank of Chicago.

He and Frances had a long wonderful retirement, living in Bradenton, Florida for the winter months. He enjoyed golfing, boating, water sports and taking cruises. He was devoted to his family.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances, six children, Daniel (Marie) Shilling, Dwayne (Vicki) Shilling, David (Kim) Shilling, Dotty (Karl) Mohr, Dwight (Sue) Shilling and Debra (Cory) Soehren, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Shirley Stine.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28 at First Baptist Church of Wheaton, 1310 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. A funeral service will take place at 5:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Mike Rowe. Interment will be private.
