Obituary

Daniel S. Hurd, age 85, of Wheaton, passed away surrounded by his family on January 30, 2021. He was born on August 20, 1935 in Winnebago, IL to Mildred and Daniel Hurd Senior.

Dan graduated from Winnebago High school in 1953. He went to ISU in 1953 and majored in Special Education and met his future wife June Baldwin. He graduated at ISU in 1957 and went on to get his MA and CAS advance study at NIU.

Dan taught school at Normal Illinois and became Director of Special Education at DeKalb County for 16 years and Director of Special Education in DuPage County (SASED) for 15 years. He became a member of the State of Illinois Special Education Board Commission for many years. He retired in 1995 and he became a consultant for Special Education in Chicago and many other cities in IL for 18 years.

Dan was a member of the Gary Methodist Church in Wheaton for almost 40 years and volunteered with PADS for many years. He also was a greeter and was in the men's choir. He was a member at Wheaton Kiwanis club since 2002 and was President for two years. He was also a Meal on Wheels volunteer.

Dan loved all sports, loved Jeopardy and Alex Trebek, traveling with the family in a motor home and being with his children and grandkids. Dan also loved his annual Las Vegas trips with his two buddies Marv and Bob.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, mother, his brother Ken, and his sisters Marilyn and Judy. He is survived by his wife, June Hurd of 64 years, his children, Dave (Karen) Hurd, John (Kathy) Hurd and Kimberly Sherman, six grandchildren Jeff, Heather, Jacqui, Matt, Cassie, and Aaron, 4 great grandkids and his brother Robert Hurd.

Due to COVID 19 pandemic all services will be held privately.
