When Dan was five years old his family moved from Yonkers, NY to Detroit, MI. He grew up in Detroit. At the age of seven years he accepted Christ as His Savior at an after school Bible club sponsored by the Christian Businessmen's Committee of Detroit. He and his family became members of Eastlawn Missionary Church of Detroit. Dan graduated from Wilbur Wright Vocational High School in 1954 with an emphasis in electrical maintenance. Phonoviewer which sold over 2 million copies to churches and individuals. Dan spent over 18 years as an electrician with the City of Wheaton before he retired in 2003.

Dan met Margaret Johnson in Wheaton and they were married on June 19, 1971 in Pilot Mound, Iowa. The Lord blessed them with two sons, Mark and David. They became members of First Baptist Church of Wheaton where he served in various ministries.
