Cynthia Marie Ritter, whose music touched countless hearts and whose embrace extended to all, departed peacefully from this world on July 19, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on September 30, 1942, Cynthia’s life became a testament to love in all its forms—love of family, love of music, and love generously given to friends and strangers alike. She grew up learning the value of education and passion, graduating from St. Nazareth High School in LaGrange in 1958. Her academic gifts flourished at DePaul University in Chicago, where, driven by a vibrant devotion to music, she earned her degree in music education and went on to receive her master’s in music instruction from the same esteemed institution.

For generations of students, Cynthia was more than a teacher; she was a guiding light and an inspiring mentor. As a piano teacher, she opened doors to music's wondrous world for hundreds of eager learners. Her reach echoed through the halls of Elmhurst College and Illinois Benedictine University in Lisle, where she taught music with joy and dedicated care. At Immaculate Conception School in Elmhurst, young voices and hands found their foundation under her earnest guidance.

Cynthia was, above all else, a master at bringing music to life. For years, the sound of her organ and piano uplifted worshippers at churches across the region: St. Daniels and St. Marks in Wheaton, Sacred Heart Church in Lombard, St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn, The Christian Science Church in Lombard, and St. Raphael Church in Naperville. Each sanctuary was made brighter for her presence and her unwavering gift. Her performances crossed sacred thresholds and public concert halls alike. Cynthia played with poise at Cantigny in Wheaton, and took to many storied locations in Chicago—including the iconic Orchestra Hall. Among her proudest achievements was performing with CAB & Co., a crowning joy in a life rich with melody. Because she had perfect pitch, she had the uncanny ability to correct a flat or a sharp being played ( on the piano) from the other room.

Yet while music was her deep and abiding passion, Cynthia’s heart always resounded with the laughter and warmth of family. She was a loving pillar to her devoted husband, David L. Ritter, who journeyed life’s varied measures beside her. Her children—Matthew, Steven, Teresa, and Peter Wrenn—remain animated by her nurturing spirit, as do her cherished daughters-in-law, Janet and Jody. Nothing delighted Cynthia more than kitchen gatherings filled with stories and the sound of bubbling pots; her children will always remember the love infused in every meal and every shared memory. Her legacy shines in the eyes of her beloved grandchildren: Abbey, Nicole, Madelyn, Sophia, Lucas, Olivia, Jackson, Joshua, Samuel, Joseph, Andrew, and Becca, each a note in the joyous symphony of her life. Cynthia also leaves behind her beloved dogs Diamond and Ruby.

Her gentle strength and kind humor are treasured by her sisters, Mary DeMarco and Maude Lovelle, and her brothers-in-law, Mick DeMarco and Jim Lovelle. Cynthia’s circle of affection was vast—her warmth extending beyond her family, so often described as “mother to all,” a sentiment felt deeply by all those who entered her home or her classroom.

She is welcomed into peace by her mother, Marie Glasier (nee Corona); her father, George Robinson; her grandmother, Rose Corona; nephew, Michael Rodbro; brother-in-law, Daniel Ritter; and sister-in-law, Roseanne Ritter. The echoes of their laughter together remain cherished memories for all who loved her.

Cynthia’s life was woven with simple pleasures: the elegance of a well-played aria, the comfort of a good meal, the joy of her grandchildren’s company. She found levity and delight even in unexpected places—never failing to appreciate the blessings of modern HVAC with the same enthusiasm as her music or family.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on July 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Petronille Catholic Church in Glen Ellyn, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Her inurnment will be at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.

Through every lesson, every meal, every note, Cynthia Marie Ritter gave the world beauty, comfort, and love. Her melody continues, carried forward by all who knew her and whose lives will sing forever with the memory of her generosity, grace, and song.
