Obituary

Constance V. Vallejo, age 95, a longtime resident of Arlington Heights, recently of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 1, at home surrounded by family. She was born January 20, 1921 in Rockford, Illinois to Selma and Swan Johnson.

Connie studied at North Park College and Bible School and she studied Spanish at Wycliffe Linguistic School in Norman, Okla. She then lived in Mexico City for a period of time to learn the language and culture. She then served with the Swedish Covenant Mission in Colombia and Ecuador. While serving in Ecuador she met Luis Vallejo, a student at Central University in Quito. They were married on November 10, 1956 in Quito. They had three daughters in Ecuador and then moved to the states where their fourth daughter was born in Rockford. She worked for many years at Fremd High School in Palatine.

She was an active member of the Arlington Heights Free Church (now called The Orchard). In retirement she taught English as a second language to the wives of Japanese businessmen. She enjoyed travel and singing. Her priority was her husband, children and grandchildren and sharing her Christian faith.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Luis Vallejo, four daughters, Patricia (Joe) Wilhelm of Grove, OK, Sylvia (Marcel) Ponton of Altadena, CA, Alicia (Phil) Gorski of Wheaton, and Joann Vallejo of Bellingham, WA, eleven grandchildren, Joe III, Jordan and Josh Wilhelm, Nicole, Gabriel and Daniel Ponton, Karin and Stephanie Gorski, and Alia Hiller, Amory Parenton and Anna Garrison and one great-grandson, Hache Garrison. She is also survived by her brother, Clifford Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Carroll Johnson, three sisters, Catherine Lundin, Clemwell Cockrell and Clarice Lindell and one grandson, John Wilhelm.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at College Church , Seminary St., Wheaton, where a funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
