Obituary

Consolacion Gacayan Biala, age 79, a resident of Klein Creek in Winfield, IL, passed away at home early Saturday morning August 30, 2014 in the presence of her oldest son Gary and Husband Primo. She was born in San Fernando, a province of La Union in the Philippines, on February 14, 1935.

Consolacion graduated from nursing school in the Philippines in 1958 and prior to settling in Canada to begin a long career in nursing, she travelled the world to countries such as Spain, Turkey, England, Egypt, China, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, and Iran to name a few. She married Primo Biala in 1969 in Seattle, WA and soon after welcomed their first son, Gary. They moved to Chicago, IL in 1971 to await the arrival of her second son, Allen. Her third son Kenneth was born in 1976. That same year, the family moved to Glendale Heights, IL where they lived until 1995. She was a stern but loving, inspirational and forgiving mother for her 3 boys that adored her.

Consolacion was a dedicated servant of her lord Jesus Christ and nursing was an extension of her passion to help and serve others. Amazingly, she worked as a full-time nurse until the age of 77, spanning a career over 5 decades. Just months after her retirement, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It could be interpreted though that because of her great work here on earth, God simply needed her to come home sooner than later in order to continue serving her Lord in a different realm.

She continued to travel the world with Primo, again visiting Israel, Germany, and Alaska to name a few. During the last months of her life Consolacion enjoyed the frequent visitations by her family, grandchildren, and close friends. Special considerations are given to her extraordinary sister Celi, who devoted much of her time, love, and care over the last few years helping Consolacion during her battle with cancer. Her loving husband Primo was always by her side during her final days. Soon after her eldest son helped her to recite her favorite prayers, she took her final breaths. It was said by her hospice nurse that the back door of her house that leads to her garden swung wide open moments before the nurse noticed she had passed.

Consolacion is survived by her husband Primo; her three sons Gary, Allen, and Kenneth; her daughters-in-law (the girls she always wished for) Kelly and Anne; her grand children Brayden, Bennett, Beckham, Enzo, Xavier; and her siblings Alejandria, Virgilia, Araceli, Aracela, Araneto, Clara, and Ana. Consolacion was preceded in death by her parents Patricio and Honoria, and her older brother Pablo.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4th, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 5th at St. Isidore Catholic Church , 427 W. Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale, IL 60108. The interment will be held shortly after at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation , St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , and the American Cancer Society .
