Conrad Howard, age 97, a resident of Wheaton since 1948, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. He was born on April 17, 1914 in Oslo, Norway.
Connie came to the United States in 1921 and graduated from High School in Chicago. He met Ruth Ramp at Lake Geneva in 1942 and they were married on Feb. 27, 1943. Shortly after they were married he joined the Army Air Corps and was injured while serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a CPA and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service and then was employed by International Harvester for over 30 years. He retired as Head of their Tax Department in 1978.
He enjoyed traveling with Ruth to visit family in Seattle. He was a wonderful role model to grandchildren. For over 50 years he served as an usher at Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton. He and Ruth were instrumental in developing the Vesper Service at Wyndemere Retirement Center where they were one of the first residents.
He is survived by two children, Edward (Doreen) of Barrington, and Jean (Larry) Armbruster of Mukilteo, WA; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and four siblings.
A funeral will be held on Monday, February, 6 at 11 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 10 am until the time of service. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace
