Obituary

Clifford Lorentz Anderson, age 95, a resident of Skokie, Illinois for 67 years, went to be with the Lord, suddenly on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Illinois.  He was born in Chicago on December 20, 1927, to Fritz and Ruth Anderson.

Cliff grew up in Chicago and graduated from Steinmetz High School. He attended Lakeview Free Church, where he learned about having a relationship with God. He played softball in the local church league with a group of guys who remained friends throughout their adult lives. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War in the Artillery Fire Direction Center from 1950 until 1952.  He had met his future wife, Phyllis Larson, at Bethany Beach, Michigan.  They had corresponded throughout his time in Korea. After returning home from his service, he married Phyllis on April 11, 1953.

After studying engineering drawing and drafting, he began a career as a mechanical designer and draftsman at Sargent & Lundy Engineers, working on design of steam-generating electrical power plants. He worked there for his whole career, retiring in 1989.

His Christian faith was central to his life. After marriage, he became an active member at Immanuel Mission Covenant Church in Chicago and later served as an elder. In 1968 he became an active member at Winnetka Bible Church where he has attended to date. He has served as an elder, and on various other church committees. Throughout life, he was a prayer warrior, and prayed each morning for all the members of his family, many missionaries, and many friends.  He would also study the Bible and pray each morning with Phyllis. We now stop and consider how much of more of God's protection we have enjoyed, and how much unknown trouble we have been spared from, because of his faithful prayers for us.

When younger, he enjoyed camping and fishing, and especially enjoyed spending time at our vacation home at Stormy Lake in Northern Wisconsin.  He was often very witty and could be quick with a one liner or humorous anecdote. He was also a "Steady Eddie" and very faithful & consistent. His word was his bond, and he always did what he promised he would do.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Phyllis Anderson, two sons, Russell (Christine) Anderson of Glenview, Illinois, and Randall (Jane) Anderson of Osceola, Indiana, four grandchildren, Bethany (Eric) Jensen, Lindsay (Ronnie Mandal) Anderson, Eric (Bethany) Anderson and Nicole Anderson, four great-grandchildren, Kendall, Clark, Carter, and Claire.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Milton Anderson.

He will be interred in a private family military ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on Thursday April 13, 2023.

There will also be a memorial service at the Winnetka Bible Church, 555 Birch Street, Winnetka, Illinois on Saturday May 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. We invite you to join us to remember & celebrate his life.
