Charles R. "Chuck" Schmidt, age 59, a longtime resident of Warrenville, died Friday, June 30, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer. He was born August 28, 1946 in Dekalb, IL.
Chuck served overseas in the Army during the Vietnam War. He then worked for over 40 years as a nursery grower and was a certified nurseryman with Platt Hill Nursery. His work was his passion. He also loved his gardens at home.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Denise; his two sons, Aaron and Josh; his sister, Joanne; his eight brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lucille; his sister, Nancy; and his sister-in-law, Mary Cagle.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, from 3-9 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Irene Catholic Church, 28w531 Warrenville Road, in Warrenville. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
