Christine Kloor, a resident of Chicago for 67 years before moving to the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn area, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Born in 1921 to John and Frances Themelis, she would have celebrated her 94th birthday on September 2nd.
Orphaned at age 12, Christine grew up at the Park Ridge School for Girls where she excelled in her studies, played in the Drum and Bugle Corps, and choreographed dance routines. She married the love of her life, John Kloor in 1941. While raising her children, Chris worked at Northwest Federal Savings & Loan, ultimately being promoted to manager. Chris was very involved in her church teaching Sunday School and eventually becoming the first woman to sit on the council at Lutheran Redeemer Church in Chicago. She lived a godly life caring for her husband, and extended family.
Chris is survived by her children, John Carl (Sue) Kloor III, Christine "Cookie" Carcenac; grandchildren, Sunny (Troy) Freeman, Deirdre (Jason) Kettlestrings, Jean-Paul Carcenac, John Carl Kloor IV; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Everett & Anika Freeman, Dylan & Cassidy Kettlestrings and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, John Carl Kloor Sr. and her sister Katherine "Kitty" Bonenberger.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
