Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Malcolm Pheneger, 77, of Warrenville, IL, formerly of West Chicago, IL, went to be with the Lord on Saturday August 23, 2025. He was born on November 27, 1947, in Waukegan, IL, to Charles and Edith Pheneger.

Chuck grew up in Crystal Lake, IL and graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School. He attended Purdue University for a while before taking a job at IBM. Chuck walked down many different paths during his working life, some of them included the Army Reserves, managing restaurants, driving a limo, running his own logistics company, and working as a courier.

In his free time and especially in his retirement Chuck found immense joy cheering on his grandchildren on the sidelines of their various activities. All his kids, grandchildren & great grandchildren knew they were loved and supported by Dad/Pa/Great Pa.

Chuck was a long-time member of the Compass Church (formerly Wheaton Evangelical Free Church) and participated in various ministries and projects.

Chuck never missed an opportunity to cheer on Chicago sports teams or share his passion for sports with others. His knowledge for all sports was extensive and impressive and could rival any sports statistician.  His family will always remember the stories, the time spent together and the way that he would do everything he could to be there for his family. Family time is the best time was a motto that he lived and loved. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

Chuck leaves behind his loving children Matt (Laura) Pheneger of Hiram, OH, Tammy Lockett of Warrenville, IL, and Chris (Julie) Pheneger of Aurora, IL. His adored grandchildren Claire, Alyssa, and Braeden Pheneger, Ephran (Justyna) Lockett, Brianna (Brandon) Sutcliffe, and Jeremy Lockett, Mya, Elly, and Nolan Pheneger. His dear great grandchildren Jacob, Jackson, and Emii. Chuck is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Paul (Donna) Thompson, Bruce (Joellen) Thompson, Barb (Dan) Zuspan, nieces and nephews, Jenny Thompson, Callie (Matt) Peterson, Nate (Michelle) Zuspan, and Kacie (Adam Kuala) Zuspan and Great nieces and nephews, Trilyn Thompson, Lucy and Emersyn Peterson and Jada, Daron and Caleb Zuspan, Cameron Kuala.

Chuck was preceded in passing by his parents, the love of his life his wife Donna (née Thompson), his brother George (Sue Ann) Pheneger, and nephew, Justin Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Ambassadors Football combines two of his loves, sports & faith in Christ, to take the Gospel to the world through soccer in Chuck's memory would be a great way to honor a great man.
