Obituary

Charles D. Fanning, age 77, a resident of Wheaton since 1981, and formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born on August 11, 1937 in Cincinnati, to Charles and Gladys Fanning.

He grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from Xavier High School in 1955 and St. Xavier University in 1960. Charlie worked for Texaco Inc. for 17 years and then for Parent Petroleum Company for 30 years, recently retiring. He married Joanne Finan on September 2, 1967.

He became a Chicago Cubs fan after moving to Wheaton. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, working the Daily Jumble Puzzle, and family time.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Fanning, two sons, David (Laura) Fanning of St. Charles and Edward (Julie) Fanning of Geneva, four grandchildren, Morgan, Chloe, Reid and Reagan, two siblings, Michael (Karen) Fanning of Ohio and Judy Fanning of Ohio, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 24, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A mass will be held Saturday,October 25, at 10:00 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 480 S. Park Blvd, Glen Ellyn, IL, 60137. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.

Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. James parish.
