Caryl Joan Fox, age 88, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Windsor Park in Carol Stream, Illinois. She was born March 30, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Richard Fox of Hollywood, Florida, Ronald Gene (Michelle) Fox of Tampa, Florida; her daughter, Judy Caryl (Steve) Larson, of Eureka, Missouri; and three grandchildren, James David (Lauren) Larson of Chicago, Illinois, Michael Steven Larson of St. Louis, Missouri, and Meaghan Caryl (Daniel) Rettke of St. Louis, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gene Francis Fox, and two brothers and two sisters.
Caryl grew up in Maywood, Illinois where she graduated from Proviso East High School. Caryl's foundation in life was her strong faith and love of teaching Sunday school. Caryl was married to her high school "sweetheart," Gene, on September 17, 1948 at the First Methodist Church of Maywood, Illinois, where she began her Christian service. Caryl later became a member of the Riverside Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. When the family moved to Wheaton, Illinois, she became an active member of Gary Memorial Methodist Church, where she served as Superintendent of the Sunday school department.
While in high school, Caryl worked for the Veterans Administration at Hines Hospital in Maywood, Illinois, where she assisted disabled veterans, returning from the war. She later worked in the communication and publishing industries, first for Brookhill Publishing Company in Wheaton, Illinois, and later for Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich in Geneva, Illinois, and TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) in Chicago, Illinois.
Caryl, and her husband, Gene, loved traveling, experiencing the world on more than twenty cruises, enjoyed attending the Wheaton Municipal Band concerts during the summer months, and spent numerous hours listening to the National Christian Choir. Caryl loved painting, and was a member of the Society of Decorative Painters. She also belonged to P.E.O..
A private burial will be held at Wheaton Cemetery, with a memorial service to follow at a later date.
