Carolyn Frink Mellott, age 82, a former resident of Wheaton, passed peacefully into eternal life December 11. Always a sweet soul, full of Christ's love she is remembered for her faith and belief in all that is good.
Born September 24, 1935 Tabor City, NC and raised in North Carolina surrounded by many cherished relatives and the farmland and beach she so loved. As a graduate of University of North Carolina, Women's College, she pursued her gift for teaching. At Myers Park Methodist Church in Charlotte she met her love, Bob Mellott. They spent 47 years in a loving marriage. Together they raised their family and enjoyed the Wheaton, IL community for many years before moving to Cincinnati.
Carolyn was an active member of Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, DAR, and AAUW. Her passions were tennis, gardening, genealogy, music and traveling. She had a heart to teach the next generation that overcame all obstacles in her life. A wonderful caregiver that also enjoyed her time in the reading Grandma program teaching first grade students.
The family is very grateful to those who cared for her at the New England Club, The Kenwood and Otterbein, as well as special extended family and friends who never let her forget how much she was loved. In turn, she always had a sweet word, and wit or encouraging bit of wisdom.
Carolyn is survived by three children, Lynn (Steve) Finzer of Cincinnati; Susan Dodge of Laguna Beach, CA; and David (Laura) Mellott of Stevenson Ranch, CA, grandchildren, Robin (Aaron), Kelli, Aerin, Cassidy, and Gabe, sister-in-law, Birdie Frink, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, brothers, David and Barry Frink and sister-in-law Glenyce (Joe) Teskoski.
Funeral services will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 am. Friends and family will be received from 10 am until service time, followed by interment at the Wheaton Cemetery.
