A resident of Winfield, IL, Carolyn I. Denning, age 84, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2024; she was surrounded by her family.  She was born August 21, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to Scott and Elizabeth (Lena) Abrams. She married Arthur J. Denning on July 7, 1962. After having twins, Adrienne and Richard, she was widowed when they were six years of age; she leaned on her Heavenly Father and church family to support her as she raised her children as a single mother.

Carolyn was, first and foremost, a Christ-follower. She came to know Christ at Canarsie Full Gospel Chapel, a small church in Brooklyn, through the faithful witness of a beloved friend and neighbor. She spent her life in service to her Lord and never missed an opportunity to share her faith. She cherished her family and invested greatly in her children and grandchildren, wanting nothing more than to know that they were walking in the Truth. She enjoyed a good card or board game of any kind and attended as many of her grandchildren's sporting events as possible – always cheering them on from the sidelines (with a rally cap when necessary). Her friends were an integral part of her life and she devoted many hours to fostering deep, lifelong friendships. She was always ready with a quick smile and a witty comment.

Working as a legal secretary all her life, Carolyn was a master with words and very intentional about communicating through cards, letters, and emails to her grandchildren. She was a member of College Church in Wheaton and volunteered at the Wise Penny retail shop in Wheaton.

She is survived by her children, Richard S. (Marie) Denning and Adrienne D. (Kevin) Cassel, her grandchildren, Ryan (Marlee) Cassel, Nathan (Samantha) Cassel, William Denning, Sarah (Brady) Syrek, and Ethan Denning, and her great-granddaughter, Eliana Ariel Cassel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Joseph Abrams.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. at College Church, Washington and Seminary St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
