Carolyn Ruth Bommelje, age 90, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.  She was born July 5, 1934 in Chicago, IL to Harry & Ella Kramer.

She grew up in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago, and after graduating from Chicago Christian High School, attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she earned three degrees in medical technology, science, and education.  She moved to California to teach high school science and mathematics, and there met Louis Bommelje.  They were wed in 1959, creating a thriving marriage that would last for over 60 years.  They raised their three sons in Wheaton, Illinois, where she taught medical technology at Central DuPage Hospital and worked as a medical technologist in multiple clinics.

A life-long learner, she enjoyed traveling, attending seminars, playing piano, singing alto in choirs and chorales, and square dancing.  As a long-time member of the Wheaton Christian Reformed Church, she served in roles ranging from custodian to church secretary, and participated in ministries such as Coffee Break and Senior Moments.  She gave her time, energy, and skills to various organizations, including Bible League International, CRC Disaster Relief, Crossroads Prison Ministries, and the New To You Resale Shop.
She is survived by her three sons: Larry (Jaynn), Steven (Jeanne), and Dan (Jennifer); her grandchildren: Derek (Amanda), Amie (Lenny) Pilla, Alex (Stacy), Michelle (Luke) Tos, Carl, Joshua (Anne), and Olivia Bommelje; her great-grandchildren: Paige, Cody, Evelyn, Elijah, Adriana, Cassidy, Lucas, and Nicolette. Also survived by her sister Harriet Beezhold and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis; her daughter-in-law, Irene Bommelje; and her brother-in-law, Bill Beezhold.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Wheaton Christian Reformed Church, 711 E. Harrison Ave., Wheaton, Illinois 60187. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 12:00 Noon.
