December 21, 1946 – June 12, 2019
Carol A. Shields, age 72, a resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at DuPage Care Center in Wheaton, Illinois. She was born December 21, 1946 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Herbert and Carolyn Evans.
Carol is a graduate of Uniontown (PA) High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from college, she put her business degree to use by working as a buyer for the Joseph Horne stores of Pittsburgh. Later she returne d to the classroom to teach distributive education in the Lancaster County (PA) public schools. While teaching in Lancaster, she met Harry, a meeting that led to 48 years of life and ministry together.
While Harry was attending seminary in Dallas, Texas, Carol worked for the Minirth -Meier Clinic, the first of several clinics established across the country. When her husband entered pastoral ministry, she was more than a pastor's wife—she was a ministry partner. She worked in the children's ministries of t he churches they served, as well as taking great delight in mentoring women in a variety of settings. Many women across the country were positively influenced by Carol's involvement in their lives. Carol also served as the bookkeeper at Wheaton Christian G rammar School for several years.
Carol's life was lived to love others in the name of Jesus. She took great delight in being with her children and grandchildren. In addition to an undying commitment to loving her sons, she felt a special bond with her da ughters-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Harry Shields, two sons, Pastor Philip ( Angee ) Shields of West Chicago and Andrew (Nicole) Shields of Wheaton, four grandchildren, Gavin and Kiana Shields and Carol and Andrew Jr. Shields. She was pre ceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held on Saturday June 15, 2019 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave., West Chicago, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will be held at Wheat on Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Wheaton Christian Grammar School .
