Bruce D. Dillingham, age 86, a former longtime resident of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2018. He was born March 31, 1932 in Chicago to Clarence and Jessie Dillingham.
Bruce was orphaned by the age of 16 and was raised by his great-aunt, Gussie. He grew up on the north side of Chicago and graduated from Schurz High School. He then graduated from Milliken University with a degree in Business/Economics. He met Marian F. Scott at the YMCA in Chicago and they were married on December 20, 1960 in the Methodist Temple in Chicago. For their honeymoon they traveled the Pan-American Highway which led to a passion for missions. They spent over a year in Yarinacocha, Peru as Short Term Assistant missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
He was trained as a tool and die maker and later went on to work as an executive at Evangel Aircraft in Orange City, Iowa. He moved to Wheaton in order to work with Wycliffe Bible Translators where he worked until retirement. They moved to Windsor Park in Carol Stream in 2014.
He attended Bethany Chapel in Wheaton. He loved ham radio and was a member of the Ham Radio club in Wheaton. He enjoyed travel and working with his hands. He often put others needs ahead of his own.
He is survived by his wife, Marian, three children, Virginia (David) Gates of Port Orchard, WA, Linda Dillingham of West Chicago, and Rob (Kristi) Dillingham of Soldotna, Alaska, and six grandchildren, Ellen, Graham, Elisabeth Gates and Leah, Jeremiah, and Rebekah Dillingham.
A funeral will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Chapel, President St. and College Ave., Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 10 until 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately at Wheaton Cemetery.
