Obituary

Brian D. Roth of Baraboo, Wisconsin passed away surrounded by his loved ones while listening to classic rock on November 9, 2022 following a brief illness.

Born in Chicago on June 2, 1955, Brian was the son of Donal and Pauline Roth. Brian graduated from Gordon Tech High School and began his lifelong career at Commonwealth Edison shortly after. Starting as a meter reader in 1978, he moved on to the underground as a cable splicer and eventually became a crew leader.  Toward the end of his loyal 33-year employment with ComEd, Brian became a supervisor of the underground.

In 1977, Brian married Joanne Harp and the majority of their life together was spent in Wheaton, Illinois with their children Brian Roth (Nara), Katie Winner (Tom), and Lisa Scrabeck (John).

Brian was a persistent learner and instilled in his children a love of reading, the outdoors and superb firemaking skills.  He enjoyed camping with his family at Devil's Lake and hunting and fishing - to varying degrees of success. Brian also enjoyed history, cooking and cooking shows.

Brian was smart, resourceful, loyal, funny, and dedicated to his family.  He was great with his hands and able to fix anything.

Brian was, above all, a devoted grandfather to Maxwell Roth, Hank Scrabeck, Scout Scrabeck, Benjamin Winner, Hawkins Scrabeck, and Jonathan Winner. His grandchildren were a source of great joy and pride.  When he retired, Brian even started his own "Grandpa's Daycare Service" because he so loved spending time with and taking care of them.  Brian loved to play games and watch movies with them and take them fishing. To this day, his grandchildren believe he was a pirate on Captain Blackbeard's ship.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Brian is survived by his father, Donal Roth, his sisters Mary Jo LoBianco (Michael), Sandy LaManna (Nick), Debbie Graham (Bill), Monica (Mike and Garry), Jeanne (Brian), and Denise (Jeff). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline and his father's second wife, Sally.

A memorial visitation to celebrate Brian's life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10am at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. A service will follow at 11am.
