Bill P.
Curry
March 14, 1937 – February 18, 2022
Bill P. Curry, born Billy Perry Curry in Hopkinsville, KY on March 14, 1937 to Lena Jo (Calvert) Curry and Ky Curry, died on February 18, 2022 at the age of 84.
Bill Curry realized his dream from childhood to become a physicist. He graduated with an A.B.. in Physics from Vanderbilt University, an M.S. in physics from University of Tennessee Space Institute, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Kennedy Western University. From the time he graduated from college (in 1955) to 1994 he worked in government and private physics research labs, including Air Force Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tennessee; Physics International Company, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and STD Research Corporation in California; and Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. He worked in the fields of aerosol science, electromagnetics, and aerospace as well as others. In 1994 Bill Curry formed his own company, EmSciTek, and worked on various physics projects under contract, particularly in X-ray tube design. Other than physics, his favorite activities included music. Wherever he lived, Bill sang bass in one or more choirs and often was a soloist, beginning with the Vanderbilt Men's Glee Club during his college days. He also loved organ music, especially music on the theater organ, and he had his own digital theater organ, which he enjoyed playing. In his younger years, Bill learned to pilot a plane and enjoyed piloting his own plane. In the early 21st century Bill was concerned about the effects of cell phone radiation and, after reviewing the scientific literature pertaining to this issue, he worked with groups to help people who were suffering symptoms by measuring the cell phone radiation levels where they were living.
In his later years, Bill became very involved in his church's relationship with a sister church in Cuba, and he was particularly active in helping to collect sample and over-the counter medications that were badly needed by that church community, and he enjoyed visiting with his sister church many times, traveling on a religious visa.
Bill Curry was preceded in death by his first wife, Uta (Windmueller) Curry. He is survived by his second wife, Gretchen Voorhis Fleming, his daughter Regina E. Curry and his son William A. Curry, daughter-in-law Annette Lugue Curry and step grandsons Timothy Ryan and Joseph Lugue, as well as his sister Beverly (James Robert Webb), sister-in-law Heidi (Hussein Tawfik), brothers in law Armin Windmueller (Katie), Gerhard Windmueller, and Paul Voorhis (Ruth Spivakovsky) and nephews and nieces.
