Betty Lee Williams, age 96, a resident of Holmstad in Batavia, and formerly of Warrenville and West Chicago, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 31.
Born in 1920, Betty grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, and attended Wiley High School and Indiana State Teachers College. In 1941 she married Mark, and they made their home in Indiana, followed by North Carolina, and then settled in West Chicago in 1951, where Mark taught at Wheaton Academy for 27 years.
Betty was a stay at home mother in the early years of her children's lives, but then as they got a bit older, she began working in the cafeteria of Wheaton Academy, and then at Hitchcock Publishing Company for 21 years as a circulation supervisor. She retired in 1987.
Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Wheaton since 1951. She served as a children's Sunday school teacher for many years.
Betty is survived by her son, Jonathan of Sandwich, daughter, Julie (Douglas) Ehorn of Winfield, and 8 grandchildren: Lynn (Ken) Ahola, Melissa McDonald, Sarah, Rachel and Jonathan (Katy) Williams, and Casey (Ashlee) Ehorn, Seth (Rachel) Ehorn, and Clare (Daniel) Colwin. 12 great-grandchildren also survive her: Heaven, Kenneth Jr., and Abram Ahola, Kaiden Williams, Liliana, Maiya, and Nikayla Williams, Harrison and Bennett Ehorn, Miles and Madeline Ehorn, and Everett Colwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thom and sister, Nancy, and son, Paul in 2004 her husband, Mark in 2008.
Visitation will be held at Hultgren in Wheaton on Monday, September 4 th from 4 to 7pm. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, September 5 th at 2pm at Michealsen Health Center at The Holmstad. Internment will be private.
