Betty D. Silvasy, 97, a longtime resident of Berkeley and Lombard, Illinois was born into eternal life with Jesus Christ on July 12, 2026.

A beloved mother, cherished daughter, dear sister, precious aunt and devoted friend, Betty was also treasured as an "honorary aunt" to her friends' families, her son's friends and her daughter-in-law's extended family, too, as the generations grew. She welcomed others with her cheerful demeanor, generous spirit and unconditional love--and was always up for a good time!

Betty attributed her longevity to adopting an optimistic attitude and staying active, even taking water aerobic classes into her 90's. She was an OG bobby-soxer fan of Frank Sinatra and enjoyed seeing him perform in person, from the 1940's at the Aragon Ballroom to his last concert in Chicago with the Rat Pack in 1988.

She did NOT pass down her love of the Chicago Cubs to Tom, a diehard White Sox fan, but they celebrated each team's respective World Series win in 2005 and 2016, and were able to share in the excitement of the Blackhawks' three Stanley Cup championships together.

Betty served as an election judge for more than 40 years, so it was important to her to be an informed citizen, knowledgeable about current issues and exercising her right to vote. Dedicated to upholding democratic ideals she liked to broaden her perspectives through world travel, remaining an avid reader (large-print editions after corneal transplant surgery), listening to NPR and supporting PBS programming. Betty generously extended "the benefit of the doubt" to others, was patient during struggles and stalwart in her Catholic faith.

Left to remember Betty are her son, Tom Silvasy (Nancy); her brother Ronald Weiner, niece Nicole Swank (Michael) and four grand-nephews; her sister Arlene Klucina (Lindell Moore), nephew Craig Klucina (Christine Perri), niece Carrie Foley (John), and grand-nephew Jeff Foley (fiancee Sara Berkland). She usually showed up for all family holidays and special occasions with her homemade almond crescent cookies!

Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband of 31 years, Thomas; her parents David and Ann Weiner, and her nephew Jeffrey Klucina.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Franciscan Court Supportive Living (West Chicago) for their attentive and tender care for Betty's needs over the past year.

As one who survived breast cancer for 50 years, Betty liked to encourage and give hope to others facing a breast cancer diagnosis. Memorial gifts in honor of Betty to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, bcrf.org, will go to fund the most promising research to give others with breast cancer a chance to live longer, healthier lives.
