Obituary

Betty Jean Reed, age 84, a longtime resident of Wheaton, Illinois, and formerly of Benton, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, at DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton. She was born January 9, 1930 near Benton, Arkansas to Lawrence and Lillie Mae Glass.

Betty grew up in Benton and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton. She graduated from Benton High School in 1948 and attended Wheaton College and Moody Bible Institute. She met Troy Reed at the First Baptist Church of Wheaton and they were married on March 31, 1956. They raised three children in Kansas City, MO and Springfield, IL where they lived until moving back to Wheaton in 1972. She was employed as an L.P.N. at DuPage Convalescent Center and MarianJoy Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton.

Her faith was an important part of her life and she actively served as a Sunday School Teacher and Bible Study leader at her churches, most recently at Glenfield Baptist Church. Betty loved to be with people and had many close friends. She dearly loved her family.

She is survived by her husband, Troy Reed, three children, Peggy (Tom) Lyons of Carol Stream, Bill (Tammy) Reed of Zeeland, MI and Don Reed of Algonquin, six grandchildren, Reed (Jess), Claire (Rick), Bess, Troy, Kyle (Erica) and Taylor, and her sister, Joyce James of Benton, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Hollis and Harley Glass.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m. Friends may visit with the family from 1:30 until 4:00. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
