IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Ruth
Fasshauer
August 15, 1948 – December 27, 2025
Betty Ruth Fasshauer (nee Thomas), 77, of Wheaton, IL, passed away into the loving arms of our heavenly father on Saturday, December 27, 2025. She was born on August 15, 1948, in Chicago, IL, to John E. Thomas and Lillian Ruth (Finn) who preceded her in death.
Betty grew up in Chicago and attended Luther North High School, class of 1966. In 1964, at Luther North, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Fasshauer, at a church youth group activity. Her beauty and joyful spirit captured Ken's heart, and the high school sweethearts married on July 20, 1968 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chicago. Together, they bought a home in the Old Irving neighborhood of Chicago and began a family. In 1977, Betty and Ken moved to the western suburb of Wheaton, Illinois with their three children so Ken could pursue a career at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton.
Betty started her career as a key punch operator. She had a rewarding and fulfilling 35 year career, culminating in her role as head of registration at DuPage Medical Group. She greeted every patient with compassion and a warm smile. She retired at the age of 76, having received multiple accolades for her skill and devotion to her work.
Betty loved to spend time with her grandchildren at the family's lake house. She was affectionately known as Nana. She spared no expense on her children and grandchildren and made everyone feel special and loved. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandkids, especially on birthdays and holidays. She loved to shop, most of all shopping for gifts and planning beautiful and lavish parties for both her kids and grandkids. She was happiest when she was entertaining the grandkids, always making sure there was a spread of snacks for everyone and welcoming all with gracious hospitality.
She was a beloved colleague and made friends wherever she went, always the life of the party and the friend you could rely on, in good times and bad. She was also a devoted animal lover with treats for every dog she met, and loved to feed the birds, geese, and ducks that enjoyed the lake behind her home. She was a long-time supporter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
Betty leaves behind her loving husband Ken Fasshauer; her daughter Kim Harrod (Mike Doyle) and Kim's children Caden, Jack, Ella, and Charlotte Harrod; her daughter Julie (Doug) Braun and Julie and Doug's children Riley and Austin Braun; and her son Michael (Mindi) Fasshauer and Michael's children Danielle and Jakob Fasshauer. Betty is also survived by close friends and extended family members. She will be missed by all.
