Obituary

Bertil E. "Bert" Landstrom, age 83, a resident of Wheaton since 1952, died Tuesday, September 21, at Fairview Baptist Home in Downers Grove. He was born February 19, 1921 to Otto and Emily Landstrom in Ceresco, NE, where he was raised. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Nebraska. He has since been a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Mr. Landstrom served in World War II in the European Theatre as a B-17 Pilot in the Army Air Corps 463rd Bombadier Group. He has maintained friendships with the group ever since by attending annual reunions. After the war he began graduate school at Northwestern University where he met his wife, Shirley. He began his career working for a Chicago Public Accounting firm. He later joined the Sunbeam Corporation where he eventually became their Chief Financial Officer. He retired from Sunbeam after 34 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wheaton for over 50 years, where he served in many capacities, including Treasurer. He was a member of the Chicago Council of Foreign Affairs. He continued his interest in current events by attending classes at the College of DuPage and attending events in the Chicagoland area.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley; six children, John (Vicki) of Glen Ellyn, JoAnn (John) Pelikan of Bensenville, Barry of Wheaton, Beth (Bob) Trojan of Geneva, Brian (Gay) of Muskegon, MI, Eric (Allison) of Naperville; eight grandchildren, Matt and Drew, Rachel and Nate, Noah, Sarah and Hannah, and Ian; two sisters, Evangeline Kalkwarf, and Charlotte (Charlie) Richard; and a brother, James (Delores).

He was preceded in death his son, Richard; three brothers, Maynard, Wallace, and Walter; and his sister, Estrid.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, from 4-9 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 24, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
