Obituary

Bertha E. Haik, nee DeJonghe, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the age of 101. She was born March 4, 1904 in France and was a resident of Wheaton, IL for the last 20 years.

Bertha grew up in Belgium during World War I and often shared stories of the hardships that she and her family endured. After immigrating to the United States with her parents and her brother Harry, Bertha met her husband of 63 years, Rev. S. J. Haik, who was her neighbor growing up in NJ where both families had settled. After their marriage in 1927, they faithfully served God together in MA, NY, PA, and WI.

Bertha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and all look forward to the day when they will meet again in Heaven.

Bertha is survived by her children, Paul (Mary) Haik of Ellettsville, IN, formerly of Wheaton, and Grace Barron of Wheaton; her grandchildren, Sharon (Stewart) Storey of West Chicago, Susan (Steve) Koop of Wheaton, Steven (Carolyn) Haik of Richmond, KY, Sandra (David) Lee of Bloomington, IN, Jeff (Carolyn) Barron of Wheaton, Brenda (Thomas) MacDonald of Darlington, WI and Todd (Allyson) Barron of Wheaton; her nineteen great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Adolph (Ellie) DeJonghe of Haledon, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. S.J. Haik; her brother, Harry DeJonghe; her son-in-law, Robert Barron; and her sister-in-law, Jane DeJonghe.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 12:00 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at the Wheaton Cemetery.
